This document describes the issues related to Cisco Unity Express Licensing.
When migrating to the new CUE 7.1 CSL licensing, the following warning occurs:
"session value exceeds license limit"
The output of the show license status application shows the following:
voicemail disabled, ivr session quantity (16) is equal to or exceeds available ports (16)
ivr enabled: 16 sessions
This issue happens becasue all the 16 ports configured are being used for 16 IVR sessions.
Solution
You can solve this in the following ways:
Option 1
Use fewer ivr sessions to free up some ports for AA/VM.
Example: Assume that you need 6 ivr sessions. You can configure this with the command “license activate ivr sessions 6” which will automatically leave 10 ports for AA/VM.
Option 2
If you will never use IVR, then you can configure “no license activate ivr sessions”. This will set IVR count to zero, thus disabling it and thus leaving all 16 ports to VM/AA. Note that this counts are persistent even when you install permanent licenses. For example, if you have decided with the option 2, and later install a permanent IVR license, IVR will still remain disabled as you set the IVR count to zero.
Note: You need to reload the device for the configuration to take effect.
"session value exceeds license limit"
After you obtain a license file from Cisco's licensing portal and copy it to a FTP or TFTP server, use the following CLI commands to install the license. Only the use of FTP is shown below.
Steps:-
1. license install ftp://username:password@ip_address/path/license_file
Use this command to install all of your licenses. As shown in the following example (which is truncated for easier readability), the command initiates several actions that result in either the printing of an end user license agreement with prompts to accept the agreement (for extension licenses only) or messages indicating that the license is installed. When a license is successfully installed, a message will confirm the installation and state whether or not the licensed feature is present in the current image.
service-module# license install ftp://192.1.1.53/lic/nme-159/nme-159.lic

4/4 licenses were successfully installed
0/4 licenses were existing licenses
0/4 licenses were failed to install
The installation process does not install duplicate licenses. The following message is displayed when duplicate licenses are detected:
Installing...Feature:xxx-xxx-xxx...Skipped:Duplicate
Note:-Install all of your licenses before continuing to the next step.
2.reload
Use this command to reboot the module:
service-module# reload
3.enable
Use this command to enter Privileged Exec Mode:
service-module# enable
Enter Your Password If Prompted.
4.show license all
Use this command to display a summary of all of the licenses installed on your module:
service-module# show license all
5..show license in-use
Use this command to display information about the licenses that are in use on your module:
service-module# show license in-use

Starting with Cisco Unity Express 7.1, the software image includes evaluation licenses. These licenses allow you to evaluate the feature before you purchase a permanent license, but they expire after a certain amount of time. To see when a license will expire, use the show license evaluation command.
Cisco recommends that you install and activate the permanent licenses before the expiration of your evaluation licenses. Permanent licenses are activates automatically when they are installed.
The following procedure includes commands that were introduced in version 7.1 and enable you to:
•Display the evaluation licenses present on the service module
•Activate the mailbox evaluation license, accept EULA
•Activate the port evaluation license
•Activate the IVR session evaluation license
•Verify which evaluation licenses are active
Steps
1. show license evaluation

Note:- To disable mailboxes, ports, or IVR sessions after a reboot, use the no form of the appropriate license activate command without specifying the quantity.
You had installed CUE 8.6 and it was working with Evaluation license, now after uploading the permanent license and after issuing the reload command on the CUE, it is still showing that the CUE is working with Evaluation License.
You need to list the name of the license feature (high)
that you want to change to "low"
So for example;
license modify priority VMIVR-PORT high or
license modify priority VMIVR-VM-MBX high
this should list the VMIVR-PORT or VMIVR-VM-MBX "evaluation" license so that you can change it to low
once you re-boot the higher rated permanent licenses it should show active/in use
To modify the license priority information, use the license modify priority command in Cisco Unity Express EXEC mode.
license modify priority feature name {high | low}
high | Sets the license priority level to high. |
low | Sets the license priority level to low. |

You need to contact licensing@cisco.com to obtain VMIVR-PORT licenses that come included with a CUE hardware purchase.
Do you need License for IVR to work on Auto Attendant with CUE?
You would need IVR license only if you want advanced IVR license functionalities like Email Managment, Document Management etc. Otherwise it is the port license which will be more than sufficient to work with basic AA functionalities.

After the CUE is rebooted the CUE would boot up with the permanent licenses.
Below commands will list the VMIVR-PORT or VMIVR-VM-MBX "evaluation" license so that you can change it to low/high.Once you re-boot the higher rated permanent licenses will show active/in use
license modify priority VMIVR-PORT high or
license modify priority VMIVR-VM-MBX high
To modify the license priority information, use the license modify priority command in Cisco Unity Express EXEC mode.
license modify priority feature name {high | low}
This commands enables you to modify the license priority level. This command lists all the expiring licenses that are available for the specified feature and you can change the priority level to be the highest for the selected license.
Example:-
The following example shows how to change the license priority level:
se-10-0-0-0# license modify priority TCV-USER high
Feature: TCV-USER
Index: 1 License type : Evaluation
Lock type : Locked
License Count : 2
License Priority: Low
Are you sure you want to modify priority? (yes/[no]): yes
Note:- The application will evaluate the changes in the next reboot.
Refer CUE commands for syntax
If you are upgrading to the same of licensed features as before, the CSL licenses are free. Then you have to follow this process to determine
To migrate to CSL licenses, use the following procedure:
1. Use the show software license command to determine which pre-CSL licenses you have.
The name of the pre-CSL licenses include the incremental quantity of the license. For example SCUE-LIC-25CME.
2. For mailboxes, add the number of GDMs (Group Delivery Mailboxes) that you will be using because they were not included in the pre-CSL counts but are now being represented in the CSL counts.
3. Divide the total number of pre-CSL licensed features by the incremental quantity represented in the name of the appropriate CSL SKU.
For mailboxes, divide by five. For ports, divide by two. For IVR sessions, divide by two.
If the result is not a whole number, round up. This will give you the explicit quantity of CSL incremental licenses that you need.
