Core Issue
In Cisco Unity 4.0, Visual Messaging Interface (VMI) consumption is measured by the Class of Service (CoS) setting, which was not the case in the earlier versions of Cisco Unity. Therefore, it displays a Licensing violation error when the VMI licenses are less than the number of subscribers allowed to use VMI by CoS.
Due to the same issue, Cisco Unity stops answering calls every four hours. It is up only when the AvCsMgr service is manually restarted.
This error is logged in the event log regarding licensing:
Error 0x331A
Licensing violation
Resolution
These symptoms are due to Cisco bug ID CSCea16377: Cisco Unity goes down every 4 hours.
To resolve this issue, choose from one of these options:
- Obtain additional licenses by sending an email to licensing@cisco.com.
- Uncheck the VMI or the license features from the CoS that are in use and for which there are no sufficient licenses. For more information, refer to Cisco bug ID CSCea16377.
