Core Issue

Application Server (AS) and Feature Server (FS) are interchangeable terms.

Resolution

The AS is a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) network element that hosts and executes applications. These application sources are accessed through interaction with the Serving Call Session Control Platform (S-CSCF) through the IMS Service Control (ISC) interface, which is based on SIP with a few extensions.

The FS provides basic calling functions necessary for voice services in an all IP environment, and is different from the functions provided by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) S-CSCF.

There are two sets of features called Call Forwarding features and Call Screening features. These sets include the following features:

  • Selective Call Acceptance (SCA)—Provides a list of numbers such that the terminating call is only accepted if the caller is a member of the list.

  • Selective Call Rejection (SCR)—Provides a list of numbers such that the terminating call is only accepted if the caller is not a member of the list.

  • Selective Call Forwarding (SCF)—Provides a list of numbers such that the terminating call is forwarded if the caller is a member of the list to a pre-defined location.

  • Call Forward Unconditional (CFU)—A terminating call is blindly forwarded to a pre-defined location.

  • Call Forward Busy (CFB)—A terminating call is forwarded to a pre-defined location if the called party is busy.

  • Call Forward Un-Registered (CFUR)A terminating call is forwarded to a pre-defined location if the called party is not registered with the SIP Presence Server.

  • Call Forward Not Reachable (CFNR)—A terminating call is forwarded to a pre-defined location if the called party is not reachable.

  • Call Forward No Answer (CFNA)—A terminating call is forwarded to a pre-defined location if the called party does not answer the telephone within a pre-configured amount of time.
