Core Issue

For security purposes, the Microsoft SQL server System Administrator (sa) password has been changed on the publisher during an upgrade. After that, upgrading the subscriber to the same version of Cisco CallManager fails. The error message indicates it could not connect to the database.

Resolution

Cisco CallManager uses the sa password in the SQL server for data replication. Because the password was not changed everywhere at the same time, there are replication problems, and the subscriber upgrade fails. The publisher password must be reset to the old password. If the password is not known, a new password must be set on the publisher first, then on the subscriber.

The sa password is used only during installation and migration and it is required to be the same on all Cisco CallManagers in the cluster. If the SQLSvc password has been changed, it might also be neccessary to recreate the data replication link between the publisher and subscribers.

To change the sa password using Enterprise Manager, perform the following steps:

  1. Expand a server group, then expand a server.
  2. Expand Security, then click Logins in the left hand pane.
  3. In the details pane, right-click sa, then click Properties.
  4. In the Password box on the General tab, type the new password.
