Introduction

This document covers the Procedure for capturing the logs

Problem Description

Fresh install failed.  Need to access the install logs in order to debug.

Resolution

If the Installation Wizard presents the option to dump diagnostic info, select to do so that the install logs and a variety of other logs will be bundled and written to a USB Key.

If the fresh install has failed, try hitting Alt + F2 on the console.  If that gets you to a responding command prompt, you can access the install.log in /tmp/.  You can get back to the installation wizard by hitting Alt + F1.

If neither of the above methods works, you can use the appropriate recovery cd as follows:

  • Insert the recovery CD.
  • Reboot the system.
  • Once the recovery CD menu comes up, hit Alt + F2 to get to a command prompt.
  • Then find the largest partition by doing a "df -h"  (It will be something like /mnt/part6)
  • The install log will be located in /mnt/part6/log/install/ directory.
  • You can return to the recovery CD menu by hitting Alt + F1.
