Resolution

A Voice over IP (VoIP) network with a gatekeeper can be used in the following examples:

  • To help scale a VoIP implementation where several gateways and devices are installed so that changes can be made at a central point (the central point being the gatekeeper).
  • To help control call admission control to limit the number of calls allowed on the network.
  • To implement the use of a proxy on the network to handle your VoIP calls separately from your data traffic.

For information on how to configure and verify a VoIP network with a gatekeeper, refer to VoIP with Gatekeeper.
