Core Issue
While using Corporate Directory on Cisco CallManager, a user sees the following error:
An Error occurred and was logged, (undefined)
This error message using DC Directory is appearing on the IP phones when attempting to access the Corporate Directory. However DC Directory does not seem to be locked, since new users can be added. Please also note that this did not occur during a new installation, as Corporate Directory access was previously working.
Resolution
This undefined error poses a difficult problem because Cisco developers typically provide some sort of message for every type of situation. Because of this, the "undefined" error more than likely indicates an issue that is not related to Cisco CallManager or a Cisco product. Since access to the directory is done via a URL, you can start from the phone and trace each step to see what actually fails. In this particular instance, access to the Internet Information Server (IIS) was questionable. IIS appeared to be running, but Telneting to the Corporate Directory URL with port 80 failed, as well as pointing the browser to the URL. Whenever you are dialing with URLs, you should be able to Telnet directly to port 80 to see the text that the server is sending toward the client. In this case, it is the IP phone. Restarting IIS solves the issue with the undefined error in DC Directory.
