Core Issue

Logging into the DC Directory (DCD) administrator on the publisher server is fine, but in this instance the ability to log on to DC administrator from the subscriber fails. After checking the passwords assigned to the services, security and passwords are not the cause of the problem.

Resolution

Usually with issues in DCD the most common solution involves the passwords assigned to the various services involved, but that is not true in this case.

The answer to this problem is name resolution. The subscriber was assigned a different Domain Name System (DNS) server than the publisher, and the DNS server the subscriber was assigned to was down. Simply adding the proper entries into the hosts and the lmhosts file resolves this particular issue.
