What is it?

This program is designed to recognize:

  • Members who have contributed significantly and provided leadership and commitment to their peers within their respective communities, including the Cisco Learning Network (CLN) and Cisco Community.
  • Individuals who help make our communities the premier online destination for Cisco enthusiasts.

Who is eligible?

All registered members except the current Cisco Designated VIPs and Hall of Fame members of the Cisco Community.

How long does it last?

This varies based on the award and community. Most awards last up to three months.

What is the benefit?

A Community Spotlight Awardee will:

  • Be highlighted and recognized throughout the community.
  • Receive a permanent "badge" (CiscoCommunityBadges_2023_SpotlightAward_14x14.png) which is placed on their profile to recognize the achievement.
    • The badge indicates their Community Spotlight Awardee status and displays the details of their award (for example, Members Choice, Month, Year).
    • The badge icon is placed next to their username on the communities during the award duration. Also, a Spotlight Award trophy will be sent to the awardee.

Notes:

      • The donation option has been suspended, we'll work on other new initiatives.
      • Internal Contributors will receive a unique recognition, but not a trophy.

What are the categories?

  • Member's Choice
    • Intended to give our members the ability to acknowledge fellow community members’ efforts.
    • To recognize your peer, fill out this nomination form.
    • Award Duration: 3 months
  • Questions Answered Award
    • Intended to recognize members whose contributions have resulted in answering the greatest number of questions in each quarter.
    • Award Duration: 3 months
  • Best Publication Award
    • Intended to recognize Cisco Community members who have contributed a document, video, or blog that has been of significant value to fellow Cisco Community members.
    • The awardee is chosen by the Cisco Community Team based on member ratings.
    • Award Duration: 3 months
  • Rookie Award
    • Intended to recognize our new active members. The award is calculated as follows:

      • We take the current award quarter and look at all new community registrants 90 days prior.
      • Of those members, we then sum all their community contributions for 90 days leading up to the award quarter.
      • The member who has added the most content (discussions, replies, documents, videos) earns the Rookie Award.
      • For example, new users who register in January are eligible for the February-April Rookie Award. The user who created the most content during the 90 days, among all the January registrants, wins!
    • Award Duration: 3 months
  • Developer of the Quarter
    • Intended to recognize the active Developer Community member that has contributed and shown the highest impact, helping to keep the community thriving.
    • Award Duration: 3 months
  • CIUG Member of the Quarter
    • Award Duration: 3 months

  • Internal Contributor Award
    • Intended to recognize internal members (Cisco Employees) whose contributions have resulted in a helpful impact in the Community through content creation, helpful votes, accepted solutions, and/or questions answered.
    • Award Duration: 3 months

Is there a limit on the awardees at any given time?

  • Yes, each award has a maximum of three winners per quarter.
  • Additionally, each language community can have a maximum of three winners per quarter
  • And yes, you can win the same award more than once — once every year (once every four quarters).

Note: However, there may be some periods of time we don't have any awardees if no one qualifies.

What is Cisco’s expectation of the awardees?

We only ask that you continue to be a positive influence in the community. This is our way of acknowledging your achievements, not asking for more. As with all community members, awardees must adhere to the Cisco Community acceptable use policy  and Community Guidelines.

Who is the point of contact?

Contact us at connect_ciscocommunity@external.cisco.com for any questions, comments, or concerns.

Hi @Hyangmo Gu ,

Wow! - I've just received an email saying I've won another spotlight award!

Now I already have three of these stylish pieces of plastic on my trophy shelf, RedNectar_0-1754947646090.jpeg so I was delighted to read in your post that

      • Winners who have won the Spotlight award two or more times will be given a donation option. With the donation option, the cost of shipping the trophy will be added to the Community Helping Community campaign that the Cisco Community runs annually at the end of the year.

However, in the email I was sent, there is no link to opt for the donation option.  And when I click the link to the Shipment Request, there is no option there to take the donation option.

And perhaps even more disturbing is that the email itself did not mention the donation option. An strangely, the link in the email directing me to visit the Community Spotlight Awards page did not link to this article in the Knowledge Base but to another extremely sterile page - although the letter's link to the FAQ, (which also mentions the donation option) did lead to another page that had a link to a FAQ that in fact lead back to this Knowledge Base page (which is not entitled FAQ at all)!!!

As honoured as I am to receive the award, I really wish that the co-ordinators of the awards get a consistent message across:

  • The sterile Spotlight Awards page
  • The FAQ page which would probably be better referred to as the Spotlight Award Announcement page
  • This Knowledge Base article (the one I'm currently commenting on), which could indeed be called the Spotlight Award FAQ
  • The letter that is sent to recipients.

Meanwhile, I'm stuck with no option to have my name gloriously added as special contributor to the Community Helping Community campaign (as promised in the original post above)

I'd really appreciate it if someone could direct me as to exactly how I can opt for the donation.

RedNectar aka Chris Welsh.

[Edit] PS. I also suggest that the email that is linked to the feedback option in the  letter be updated to a valid email address so as to avoid this kind of problem
