Install a 3rdParty Gadget on Finesse Server OR Separate Application Server

Hello

Kindly provide some guidance on the following queries:

  • What is preferable/CISCO recommended mode of installing 3rdParty Gadgets on Finesse i.e. should we use Finesse Server OR a Separate Application Server e.g. tomcat/jetty/IIS to install a 3rdParty Gadget for CISCO Finesse?
  • What are pros and cons of both installations?
  • Is there any redundancy mechanism possible, if an external server hosting a Finesse Gadget goes down and unable to serve the .xml file of Gadget?

Thanks an anticipation.

You may install the gadget file on the Finesse server, or an external server. Since gadgets are just file resources that run on a client (browser), they may be served by any technology.

Keep in mind for redundancy, for a fail over, you simply need to follow standard methodologies for keeping a website up and running. This would be an advantage in having the Finesse server supply gadgets resources, as there is fail over built in. Just make sure all servers have copies of the gadgets files.

Also, keep in mind that most of the time Finesse wants gadget resources from HTTPS (SSL). So, instead of using HTTP, just use //. For example. HTTP.mygadgets.mycompany.com should be //mygadgets.mycompany.com

Thank you ewindgat.

Kindly comment on this scenario:

If the application server hosting Gadget Specification file goes down, than is there any way we can provide a fail over?                As the Address of Gadget xml file is manually embedded in the finesse desktop layout.

yes, with the standard Finesse server setup, your router will handle the fail over, and you need the Gadget files on both servers.

If you have your gadget files hosted on a non-Finesse setup, they you'll need to do the same

ewingat, thankyou for the explanation.

kindly elaborate what you are referring here as "router"?
