UCCX 8.0.2 cluster, how long can one server be offline?

Contact Center Express (8.0.2.11004-12)

I believe there used to be a maximum time period on older versions of UCCX that one server in the cluster could be offline from the cluster without causing a huge data resync problem (had to be rebuilt maybe).

I believe it was about a week. If one server in the cluster was off line for more than that time, it could not be brought back into the cluster.

Is this the case with version 8.0.2?

We do an annual DR test and we were going to simulate the site where the UCCX Subscriber is located, is gone. We wre going to shut down the switch port for several days during the test.

Is there any problem in doing this?

Are there any precautions to take prior to, or anything that needst obe done after the server is back in the cluster?

Hi Wilson,

There are mutiple solutions here.

First:

Bring back the second Nodeonline, and perform

utils uccx database forcedatasync

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_8_0/configuration/guide/uccx801cli.pdf

This will consume time depending on the data difference between the two nodes of UCCX and also advisible to do it during maintainance hours.

Incase if the db replication has to be rest again use the below CLI command,

utils uccx dbreplication setup

Second:

If the second node is offline for a long time there is one more method i.e. perform the Remove node operation from the UCCX first node to remove the second node, reinstall the second node with the same version as of the first node and perform Add to cluster operation once again.

I am not aware about the how much time allowed for the nodes to be offline. May be someone who has the field experience can comment here.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking if the server is disconnected from the network, the servers will be in Island mode and both servers will be the Master.

I was thinking before turning up the switchport, to reboot the server and allow it to come up in the cluster with the other server as the Master.

Would I still need to do the Data Resyc operation?

Hi Wilson,

Apologies for not understanding your query, what I thought was UCCX second node will be offline (shutdown), while answering the above query.

Incase if both the nodes work independently without connecting each other than the Island mode comes into picture.

Please refer the section "When WAN link between Data Centres is down - Island mode" in the below link.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_8_0/reference/guide/uccx80_eb_failover.pdf

In island mode there will be independent latest data on both the nodes if both of them handled the calls. If you perform force data resync than one of the nodes will lose the data, if you dont perform the reesync than there will be inconsistencies between the nodes.

Hope it helps.

Anand
