UCCX 8.02 MCS Upgrade to UCCX 8.5 UCS

Looking at doing a tech refresh for a customer to upgrade from CCX 8.0.2 on MCS servers to CCX 8.5 on UCS servers. This is currently an HAoWan environment as well. Is it possible to use DRS to backup 8.0.2 data and restore to 8.5 system? Not sure if this is possible as I've never done it before. Don't want to impact current production environment by doing upgrade on MCS boxes. Other option - install 8.0.2 on VM machine on UCS and restore DRS backup on it and then upgrade to 8.5??? Looking for suggestions. They want historical data migrated so building from scratch and adding the configs is not an option. Thanks.

Hi

You must backup/restore to the same version, and the restore server must have the same IP address etc.

I would probably:

- DRS the current server

- Restore to same build on UCS (same hostname/IP etc)

- Upgrade to 8.5 on UCS

- Change IP and other information (if you need to - e.g. because UCS is somewhere else in the datacentre logically or physically)

- Test a handful of clients then get the rest upgraded

The tricky part is maintaining the historical data, and getting all that done in one maintenance window. If that's a problem for you it might be worth doing the upgrade to 8.5 on the MCS (assuming hardware support etc has been checked) in one window, and then the DRS migration to UCS in another.

Aaron,

Thanks for confirming. We will have a change freeze in place so we have time to build the UCS and do the items you described for data migration in a lab prior to going live. No IP or hostname changes - just a straight tech refresh. Many thanks again.

Cool - just though I should stress the point over the historical data. If you do the DRS now, and don't go live on the upgraded system until next week, there will be a gap of one week in their reporting data when you are done...

Yes, customer is aware of the gap. Many thanks.
