Internet2 runs a nationwide optical and packet network supporting research and education throughout the United States. Starting towards the end of 2020 and through most of 2021, during the height of the pandemic, Internet2 designed and deployed a new network based on the Cisco 8200 platform. This included migrating over 2,000 BGP sessions in just over 30 days. This effort was possible in part because of Cisco NSO, Cisco pyATS, and other software tooling. This session will highlight Internet2’s experience with NSO and the factors that led to our success.
