  • roaming on WLAN and DHCP across WAN VPN - ( 09-21-2001 )
  • Wireless Security and Network Management
  • Does anyone know if I could locate the DHCP server on one end of the enterprise campus and have all WLAN clients in the branch offices (that are connected to the main campus with IPsec VPN) get their addresses from this central DHCP. I know that normally you'd connect the DHCP server to the bridge directly.Any implementations?

  • Question on Cisco 340 - 802.11 adaptor - ( 09-18-2001 )
  • Other Wireless - Mobility Subjects
  • Hi,I am using Cisco Aironet 340 client pcmcia adapter to connect to the 802.11b network. Now I am developing an application which is required to query the network card and determine the BSSID List.Microsoft webiste-defines that NDIS 5.1 has support for this information to be extracted using the OID: OID_802_11_BSSID_LIST. However, when I send this to the NDIS driver, it returns an error 'ERROR_GEN_FAILURE' (error no: 31). Is the NDIS driver downloadable from the cisco website NDIS 5.1 compliant? Does it support the full ranage of 802.11 OIDs defined by NDIS 5.1? Suprisingly, OID_802_11_RSSI which is also an OID in NDIS 5.1 works prefectly fine.Does anyone know what the problem is. Whether it is the NDIS driver which is not compiant with NDIS 5.1 or whether I am making some mistakes.Your help would be appreciated.

  • Data flow thru each system connected to a router - ( 09-14-2001 )
  • Other Network Architecture Subjects
  • Hi,Suppose i am querying a router(using SNMP) which has 10 interfaces. I know that ifInOctets and ifOutOctets give the data flow to and from the router. But, is it possible to know how much data is flowing from a system(connected to that router) thru an interface on the router?...(ie i want to know the ipaddress of a system, amt of data flow to/from the system and the interface number thru which its data flows...i want to know this information for each system whose data flows thru that router). Is this possible? If yes, how to do it. I don't want any tool for this. I want the logic and information about the required MIB.Any help in this regard is appreciated. Thanks and Regards,Anitha

  • Audio Text - ( 09-07-2001 )
  • Other Collaboration Subjects
  • Hi<br>We just recently purchased an 8 port Unity license. I'm a little confused in regards to how the Text to speech is licensed. We have plenty of Text-to-Speech Email licenses available and 2 TTS ports but under the Licensing Features section it show Audio Text = False. Does this mean we did not buy an audio text license or is this a configuration issue.<br><br>Thanks for your help<br><br>Kris Seraphine<br><br><br>

  • Spanningtree and port channels - ( 08-29-2001 )
  • Other Network Architecture Subjects
  • I have two 6509's in my distribution layer and nine 6509's in my access layer. If I set up dot1q trunks in the on mode from my access to distribution layer spanningtree blocks at the access layer,GREAT!Now,when I form two port channels(4 dot1q trunks in each) from each access switch to each distribution switch, the Spanningtree blocks at the distribution layer. There is no connection between the distribution switches. There is however excess traffic now on one of the access switches(BPDU's).All media is fiber. Why does the blocking occur at distribution layer after forming the port channel? Any help greatly appreciated!!

  • Cisco IP SoftPhone 1.2(1) is available in the Software Center - ( 08-27-2001 )
  • Other Collaboration Subjects
  • FYI.This version is required if you want to use SoftPhone with CallManager 3.1.It also is supported with CallManager 3.0(5) or later.Note: Although people have been able to get SoftPhone 1.1 to work with CallManager 3.1 by installing the CM3.1 TAPI TSP, it is not a "supported" configuration.SoftPhone 1.2 works over VPN as well as if the PC has multiple NICs. The best way to make this work for clients "out of the box" regardless of their connection method is to create a web-based installation for them to use. It also supports English, French, German, and Japanese languages. Please see the documentation for more information:http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/c_ipphon/ip_7960/softphon/ver_1_2/eng/index.htm

  • Third Party Fax Integration Explained - ( 08-23-2001 )
  • Other Collaboration Subjects
  • Here's some general information about how Unity's faxmail features work with regards to 3rd party fax servers.<br><br>Cisco Unity Third Party Fax Integration<br> <br><br>Cisco Unity is designed to leverage the features of Microsoft Exchange Server and Third-party Enterprise Fax Messaging solutions to create a powerful Universal Inbox, which provides single-point access to voicemail, email, and faxmail. Subscribers are able to receive notification when a new fax arrives and request delivery of fax & email messages to a fax machine. <br><br> <br>The following Third-Party products have been qualified for support* with Unity:<br><br>AVT RightFax v.6 or higher (<A HREF="http://www.rightfax.com" target="_new">http://www.rightfax.com</A>) <br>Esker FaxGate v.7 or higher (<A HREF="http://www.esker.com" target="_new">http://www.esker.com</A>) <br>FAXCOM for Exchange version 6.19 or higher (<A HREF="http://www.strsoftware.com" target="_new">http://www.strsoftware.com</A>) <br>Fenestrae FAXination v.4 or higher (<A HREF="http://www.faxination.com" target="_new">http://www.faxination.com</A>) <br>Interstar LightningFAX v.5.5 or higher (<A HREF="http://www.lightningfax.com" target="_new">http://www.lightningfax.com</A>) <br>Omtool Fax Sr. v.3 or higher (<A HREF="http://www.omtool.com" target="_new">http://www.omtool.com</A>) <br>Optus FACSys v.4.5 or higher (<A HREF="http://www.facsys.com" target="_new">http://www.facsys.com</A>) <br> <br><br>In order to qualify for support*, the Fax Server must provide three key features:<br><br><br><img src="/images/icons/smile.gif"> There must be an Exchange Gateway or Connector component that facilitates communication between the Fax Server and Microsoft Exchange. <br><img src="/images/icons/smile.gif"> The fax messages must arrive in the subscriber’s Inbox with a distinct message class such as IPM.Note.Fax <br><img src="/images/icons/smile.gif"> Clients must be able to send outbound fax messages using this addressing format: [FAX:name@number] <br> <br><br>Why are these features important to Unity?<br><br> <br>Unity doesn’t interact directly with the Fax Server; Unity interacts with Exchange. Therefore, the Fax Server must also interact with Exchange by using an Exchange Gateway/Connector component. This is the component that directs inbound fax messages to the subscriber’s inbox and directs outbound faxmail to the Fax Server.<br> <br>When the Fax Gateway delivers a new fax message to a subscriber, it must arrive in the Exchange Inbox with a message class that can be distinguished from a generic email message. This allows Unity to identify the message as a fax and act accordingly. <br> <br>Unity’s ability to deliver email & faxmail to a fax machine is dependant on the Fax Gateway’s ability to recognize outbound messages with the [FAX:name@number] format. Unity sends the message in this format, at which point the Fax Server should route it to a fax port for delivery to a fax machine.<br><br> <br><br>*Cisco does not provide direct support for third party products. Support in this context refers to Unity’s faxmail features only.<br><br> <br><br><br>

  • AS400 - Cat 3508 Problem - ( 08-09-2001 )
  • Other Network Architecture Subjects
  • AS400 with two NICS, one a 1GB over FO and the otherone is 100Mbps over UTP. The AS400 is connected to a 3508 (with GB modules)by the GB NIC and to a CAT 3524 by the 100Mbps GB.The GB NIC is the onlyone that runs tcp/ip, the a00Mbps NIC attends the request of a Netware for SA server.I am having the following problem:The users sessions are disconnected (mainly by the GB NIC). I monitored the network with Sniffer pro and there are not Layer 2 or layer 1 problems (0 CRCs, 0 Alingments, 0 runts, etc). The only error (200 per 30 min)is a "idle too long" reported by the Sniffer Pro, but I thing it is because people let the session open while is taking a cup of coffeee for example. The average Brroadcasts per second is 12, is this too high?.thanks for any ligh to help me solve this problem.

  • Policy Based Route for OSPF-EIGRP - ( 08-07-2001 )

  • I have two routers connected via Frame. One running OSPF only and the other OSPF+EIGRP. If I apply a policy based route to both routers selecting the traffic that should go via Serial and all other traffic going to Ethernet (for both sides). Will it work? Do we have issues because one router is running OSPF only?

  • Fax Server PRI Interface - Inconsistencies - ( 07-31-2001 )
  • Other Collaboration Subjects
  • We have a Lightning Fax Server interfaced to a CallManager from a 6608 PRI interface. The PRI is configured as 5ESS on the dialogic board on the Lightning Fax. What do you suggest as the proper PRI config for the protocol on the CallManager PRI for this interface. The options would appear to be [5E9, 5E8, 5E8 Custom,]?We are having intermittent success on faxes successfully reaching this server. They are either successful, or they do not connect successfully and simply terminate the call. The inbound PRI's for local and long distance are configured as NI2 with their respective carriers.Running 3.0(11) with a PUB/SUB/SUB config. Thanks

  • Interesting MWI problem solved - ( 07-27-2001 )
  • Other Collaboration Subjects
  • This may be affecting some folks having problems with the notifer kicking out MWI or notifications for some users in their system.<br><br>We found that in some cases subscribers that have their timezone value set to "empty" fail. The reason for this is the notifier needs to pull their time zone value out to see if the schedule on your notification device is active for your timezone before kicking it into gear. It does this even if you have no notification devices active.<br><br>We're working on a fix but as a short term work around you can set these users to a timezone or you can download BulkEdit off my web page and make sure all your subscribers are assigned to a time zone in one shot... <br><br>We had two seperate sites with this in the last couple days. If you're having MWI issues for some folks and can't figure out why, this is worth checking into. Not an obvious debugging path to run down...<br><br>Jeff Lindborg<br>Unity Product Architect/Answer Monkey<br>Cisco Systems<br>lindborg@cisco.com<br><A HREF="http://www.AnswerMonkey.net" target="_new">http://www.AnswerMonkey.net</A> (new page for Unity support tools and scripts)

  • Aironet WLANs and VLANs - ( 07-19-2001 )
  • Other Wireless - Mobility Subjects
  • I have a customer looking to deploy a WLAN. His users are distributed over 3 VLANs. He would like to have his users be able to roam throughout the WLAN, and still retain their VLAN assignments. We thought we could do this via dynamic VLAN ports, but since learned that each port can only be a member of a single VLAN.Is there any way to configure the 350 Series APs to support trunking? Failing that, how do you implement VLANs over a WLAN?
