Disconnect from the network, erase the config or reset to factory - so you can install any other place ? is this what you looking ?

actory-reset { all | config | boot-vars}

Example:

Device# factory-reset all

Use the command with all options enabled.

No system configuration is required to use the factory reset command.

Use the option all to erase all the content from the NVRAM, all the Cisco IOS images including the current boot image, boot variables, startup and running configuration data, and user data.

Use the option config to reset the start-up configurations.

Use the option boot-vars to reset the user added boot variables.

After the factory reset process is successfully completed, the device reboots and stops at ROMMON mode.

if only 1 switch - there is no active ports

1. Turn off the device

2. remove all connected cables.

3. bring back to the desk, connect to console - turn on the switch.

4. reset to factory.

There are active ports, you need to Move to other Switch, since you thinking to remove them.

By turn off the devive, all working devices go offline.

you can unpatch while removing the kit from the rack anyway.

rest all same procedure.

hope this makes sense?

Note: when we addressing decomm means, all active devices gone from the device and migrated to a new device or alternative option or vacated.
