Virtual Security Gateway (VSG) v1.2 - what's new? v1.3 - what's coming?


With the Nexus 1000V software switch we are addingvirtual networking services by tightly binding virtual service capabilities tothe underlying network in the form of vPath or Virtual Service Datapath. The Virtual Security Gateway (VSG) is one of the virtual network servicesavailable today. 

VSG v1.2 is shipping today and here are some of the key features:

  • Expanded VM-attribute support for policycontrols
  • VSG can be deployed as a Virtual Service Blade(VSB) on the Nexus 1010
  • vPath ping between the VSG and Virtual EthernetModule (VEM)
  • TCP reset policy action for rules
  • Long-distance (DC-to-DC) vMotion support

VSG v1.3 is in beta and here are some of the keyfeatures that you can expect:

  • vSphere 5 support
  • Layer 3 support for VSG to VEM connectivity
  • Extendingfirewalling capabilities to the VM-to-VM traffic on VXLANs
