UCS Director: Troubleshooting UCS Director when services were not started

 

This document explains how to troubleshoot UCS Director when appliance when appliance is not booting as it it waiting indefinitely on some service.

 

Problem:

 - There were instances when UCS director is waiting indefinitely on mySQL service while booting

 - MySQL service is not starting due to some database corruption

 - Essential services such as 'ssh' is not yet started, so troubleshooting is difficult

Diagnostics Steps:

 - Boot the appliance in interactive start-up mode... Press 'I' when the interactive start-up option is given during the boot-up

- Start all services except the affected services... eg. 'vaos'... This will enable the appliance to complete boot

- This will enable the essential services such as 'sshd' for troubleshooting to became available

- Now, you can login to the appliance by shelladmin@<ucs-d ip address>

- Now, you can view and manage services from shelladmin

- Also, you can manage and diagnose the issue from the root prompt as well. Eg. analyze the MySQL logs from /var/log/mysqld.log
