Can NSX-T provide overlay for LAN based VLAN's

Hi all,

We currently have Nexus 7706 chassis' running OTV stretching 2 DC's. The business is looking at options of replacing OTV with either NSX-T or ACI to create an overlay into the cloud.

I believe NSX-T can stretch networks for physical servers, and virtual servers residing in vCenter, but l wondering if NSX-T can stretch networks that reside on the LAN?

Thanks,

James

Hello!

No - you cannot use NSX-T or the legacy NSX-V to span/stretch physically attached servers . They can only deploy overlay transport for VMs that reside inside the VMWare ESXis or HyperV nodes (yes - you can deploy NSX separately for HyperV as well) .

This is where the beauty of BGP EVPN VXLAN or Cisco ACI come in - you can use them for both physical AND virtual environments - and in the same way .

Best regards!
