I have an ESXi 4.1 cluster that already runs a distributed virtual switch. No standard vSwitches exist on the hosts. When trying to install the VSM I get an error message saying no vSwitches could be found. However when you read the installation guide it clearly says that the VSM can be installed on a standard vSwitch or a DVS.
So my question is, is it possible to install the 1000v on a cluster that does not have any standard vSwitches?
Thanks

Hi Simon,
With the VMware DVS, the VSM can be deployed using the VMware DVS for the VSM portgroups through vCenter. The initial configuration will have to occur through the manual deployment process (rather than the Installer GUI which currently doesn't support the VMware DVS). Following the manual procedure, deployment of the Nexus 1000V VSM should go fine with the VMware DVS.
Hope this helps.
Let me know if you run into any trouble and I can try to help guide you through it.

Thanks for the guidance, I was able to get it working using the manual method.
