Cisco Nexus C9372TX-E device failure after NXOS update

pcasado
Level 1
Level 1

problem with a 9372TX-E that was working with no error before upgrading from 9.3.7 to 9.3.14, it restart all the time on final stage with error "switch %$ VDC-1 %$ %MODULE-2-MOD_DIAG_FAIL: Module 1 (Serial number: SAL2023RCXL) reported failure on ports Ethernet1/1-48 (Ethernet) due to DEVICE POST/DIAG FAILURE in device DEV_BCM56850_ASIC (device error 0x2)"... it was upgraded from 9.3.1 perfectly fine with no error.  I tried going back to nxos.7.0.3.I7.10, 9.3.1 or 9.3.7, but same error stop the installation... there was no disruption, no physical or any other software changes. I know this model reach EOL but it was a perfectly fine hardware up until with absolute no reason it display and report "device failure".

console display output:

 - Yet it seems a hardware failure : power cycle the nexus and scrutinize the self tests on the console when the device is powered up again ,

thanks @marce1000 for the reply, I break the start checkup, then I login (admin/<blank>), it goes on, but then, in around 30 secs. it display the error (device failure) and it automatically restart, leaving me the loop back on the loader> prompt..

In this video i will explain to you how to fix Boot Loader Prompt issue in the Nexus 9K platform. Command will be - boot nxos.9.3.11.bin
This Video uploaded for better access on the main video. Main Link of this video is here. https://supportforums.cisco.com/t5/data-center-videos/how-to-restore-a-cisco-nexus-switch-from-loader-prompt/ba-p/3101970 Original link video seems to BW limitation enabled. This great video helped me to ...

Thanks, I tried all that already, such steps are good for "recovering" from landing to the loader (GRUB) every time it reboots, in my case, I can't do anything at all that takes more than 30 secs, as when I break the startup to login, in the background, the system is still trying to get "ready", then it hangs (because of device failure) and automatically reload (restart) the system, I can't copy r s, as it never reach to be ready, I can't load, boot (only in "recoverymode"), install, etc. any image file.
the thing is, how is it that going from 9.3.7 to 9.3.14 it kill a "module" (the whole 48x 1/10Gb ports), nothing was connected to it, there was no physical change at all, nothing but doing the upgrade with nxos.9.3.14.bin (the hash is correct, no tampering), just like it did from 9.3.1 to 9.3.7 w/o any issue... am waiting for later, to access another 9372TX-E to check parts, as I've tried all that I can by software... Thanks @marce1000...

  - @pcasado I have no idea why it happened , because at first glance it seems a 'simple' hardware problem only indeed.
I can only recommend to try insert an usb with the previous version and check if that could make
the device 'wait to boot from' after instructions. But I don't have much hope.
Some times you need to upgrade to https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus9000/sw/93x/epld-rn/nxos_n9K_epldRN_9314.html
to remain compatible with a certain nx-os release. But since the device is 'bricked' already
                      that won't work anymore probably
Standard advise is to contact TAC , if you would still have support ,

I tried to boot from usb1:, usb2: and even tftp:, but it doesn't fully boot an image, at the moment that it check the modules it display the error and it reload. if it boot and at least stay on, I would at least re-check with the EPLD images. I did ran them, when I updated from 9.3.1 to 9.3.7, I updated the EPLD with n9000-epld.9.3.7.img (both, module all and golden), and it did update all and well, no problem so far, it ran for few hours, up to when I updated to nxos 9.3.14, then when complete, it boot on the login prompt, but few secs later it display the error and then reload, I did reload a dozen times, so I went for a clean install and here is where I am...

in the 30 sec gap, I manage to show this (image), but since it show up as "removed", it can't update (image)...
