ipInDiscards SNMP oid meaning for nexus switchs

Dear community,

We are currently using a few 93180YC-EX Nexus switchs only for L2 traffic - propagating vlans to servers connected to this switchs. Our NMS did an auto discovery of SNMP oids for these nexus, and reported some warning for the ipInDiscards oid (1.3.6.1.2.1.4.8.0 - SNMP counters are increasing ) but i cannot find the meaning of this counter in the CLI.

I checked our discard counters with the "show interface counters errors" and did not found any discards.

Does someone know where to look or the mapping of this oid to the corresponding CLI commands ?

Thank you.

Hi @Lewis7422 ,

I didn't find much information to describe it, but I think it may be related to "IP Software Processed Traffic Statistics". In general, the switch is forwarded by hardware, if it is a layer2 switch, you don’t need to worry about it.

Thank you for your answer, yes this could be counter for software processed packets and in our case associated to our management trafic (we use an SVI for mgmt trafic and not the mgmt port so this could be related). As we do not see any problems regarding our traffic, we will delete this check.

Thank you.

Regards,
