Mapping tail drops to HIF port on 2232pp (woodside)

Hi!

I am trying to find out how to determine the tail drops on a host interface of a 2232pp fex. When you run the following commands:

attach fex xxx

fex-xxx# show platform software woodside ints

you get output like:

...

| SS0 : ssx_int_norm_td |
|--+---------+----------------------------------+
|0 |03cbe6de | tail drop[0] | frames are being tail dropped.
|1 |028cc71f | tail drop[1] | frames are being tail dropped.
|2 |03473782 | tail drop[2] | frames are being tail dropped.
|3 |022110c0 | tail drop[3] | frames are being tail dropped.
|8 |0000005a | tail drop[8] | frames are being tail dropped.

So SS0 (switching subsystem 0?) has tail drops. Ok, but what HIx interfaces are related to SS0 (or SS1, SS2 ... SS7)??

HI @aches63

On the woodside you only have 4 SS (sub systems). You can use the following command to check the Front port - HIF/NIF - SS relationship:

switch# attach fex chassis_id
fex-[chassis_id]# show platform software woodside sts
fex-101# show platform software woodside sts
Board Status Overview:

In your case, as you have tail drops on SS0, you should simply move some cables from SS0 to other ports from other SS to avoid congestion. Easy way to see the current instant traffic rate on the ports is:

fex-101# show platform software woodside rate

Of course it would be best to check your NMS to see how the b/w utilization looks like on the rest of the ports.

Stay safe,

Sergiu

HI @aches63

On the woodside you only have 4 SS (sub systems). You can use the following command to check the Front port - HIF/NIF - SS relationship:

switch# attach fex chassis_id
fex-[chassis_id]# show platform software woodside sts
fex-101# show platform software woodside sts

Thank you for the reply! When I run the show platform software woo new_ints command (after attach fex xxx), the output does show stats for SS4, SS5, SS6, and SS7. Are those names used to differentiate between the use of SS0, SS1, SS2, and SS3 for the NI ports or something else?
