Multiple Nexus 2348 attached to Nexus 9300

Hi Everyone,

I have a customer who is deploying a number of Nexus 2348 which will be attached to a Nexus 93180YC. They are hoping to daisy chain a couple of 2348TQ's to each 93180. With that they will have connected to the 93180YC, only 2 ports 53/54 would be available for uplinking the 2348s. So with that being said, I was thinking about daisy chaining a the 2348's together (kinda like the ASR 9000v Satellites, if a reference is needed), but I found another post which mentions this isn't possible and each 2348 needs to uplinked individually to the head unit.

Can someone confirm if that is still valid (since that post was from back in 2014. I haven't found much documentation on that setup. Most of the example would seem to support the single connect to one or two head units.

Thanks for any clarification/information

Hi,

Daisy chaining FEXs is not supported for Nexus switches. That would overly complicate the forwarding logic especially when it comes to VPC. You can refer to the supported typologies here: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/nexus-2000-series-fabric-extenders/200363-nexus-2000-fabric-extenders-supported-un.html

The configuration for each supported topology can be found here: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus9000/sw/92x/fex/configuration/guide/b-cisco-nexus-2000-nx-os-fabric-extender-configuration-guide-for-nexus-9000-switches-92x/m_n9k_configuring_the_cisco_nexus_2000_series_fabric_extender_...

Best regards,

Sergiu

Hi Sergiu,

Thanks for the reply and confirmation. Those docs are the ones that I seen which made me wonder about that setup.

It's appreciated.
