Nexus Spanning-tree type question

Hi to all,

I read many guides and posts but it is still not clear.

I have a question regarding STP Type between a pair of Nexus and Access Switch.

1.    Nexus   peer-link     Nexus

                     VPC

          Catalyst Access Switch

Between Nexus and Nexus I have "spanning-tree port typy network" , right ?

Direction to the access switch I have port-type normal, right ?

2.

Nexus   peer-link     Nexus

Access Switch is single attached without vpc

Catalyst Access Switch

Between Nexus and Nexus I have "spanning-tree port typy network" , right ?

Direction to the access switch I have port-type ???

Sometimes I read to use port type edge or normal and sometimes I read

to use port type network when the switch is single attached and can send BPDU´s

So what is the right solution ? Maybe it depends

Thanks in advance

Alex

 now to clear point

1- what different between network abd normal is bridge assurance' it work only in network type.

2- Always use network type between two nexus vpc

3- edge type always use to connect HOST (non stp device) to nexus

4- normal as photo above is use between other SW abd nexus (no bridge assurance) and not use PO to nexus vPC

Hi,

thanks for the picture. It is from the design guide. But we have only VPC in this design.

What about a single attached access switch or a connected switch with two uplinks and

one link is blocking

Port toward other switches could be normal or network, not edge.

Edge ports, which are connected to Layer 2 hosts, can be either an access port or a trunk port.

Note

If you configure a port connected to a Layer 2 switch or bridge as an edge port, you might create a bridging loop.

Network ports are connected only to Layer 2 switches or bridges.

Note

If you mistakenly configure ports that are connected to Layer 2 hosts, or edge devices, as spanning tree network ports, those ports will automatically move into the blocking state.

So the most simple way is to keep them normal by default. For additional protection you can configure them as network.

Hi,

that is exactly my question.

But you will never see a diagramm where the ports configured as network type, only normal.

And what about an ISSU update when all ports configured as normal.
