We are considering replacing our 6509e in our core with a solution that is more robust, need several modules that have 10 gig capability SFP+, UPOE, 1 Gigabit Ethernet with POE RJ45,  redundancy, and will last us another 5-8 years. We currently have eigrp configured with port-channels, vrf's etc.

any recommendations or suggestions Nexus versus 9400 series ?

Thanks

Nexus series of switches do not have UPOE or POE capability, so if you are not planning to have any access switches with POE, Nexus may not meet your requirements.

On the other hand you may consider the Catalyst 9400 series switch but in terms of scale and throughput it is no match to the Nexus 9500 / Nexus 7700.
You may also consider catalyst 6800 series but AFAIK it also does not have POE capability
