Static Route on DCNM

We are playing around with DCNM, and we have just configured a new VXLAN BGP EVPN fabric. We can create VRFs and Networks, and everything goes fine.

However, we haven't been able to find a way to configure a static route that should point to an external device. How can we do that?  Just a simple static route!.

I read Cisco documentation and they talk about Border Leafs, VRF Lite and eBGP peering to other devices, but nothing else. We just want to connect, a FW for example, and set some static routes pointing to the FW, but we cannot find how!

Appreciate any help

Thanks!

Has anyone figured this out?

There isn't an obvious way to do this. If you were doing VXLAN BGP EVPN manually then it would be easy but DCNM doesn't implement all the CLI features of this just a subset. Routing is particularly weakly implemented in DCNM (ie not many options).

If you are talking about northbound connections to the rest of the world then your only real option in DCNM is eBGP over VRF-Lite.

However if you want to connect a firewall to leaves to do some inter tennant firewalling then you can do that and it supports static routing. The configuration workflow to do this is in the "services" section under the "control" main menu items.

Other than that the best way I have found to implement stuff that isnt in DCNM already is using templates or free from config. First figure out the simplest way to do what you want at the CLI then see if its something that you could do with the freeform config options for interfaces or entire switches and if not then look at modifying a template to do it (always work on a copy of a template leave the originals untouched).
