Hi Experts,

I am learning an online course about Cisco Nexus series switches, and I built Cisco Nexus NXOS nxos.7.0.3.I7.8.bin in my home lab VMware ESXi client, using the .ova file.

I've finished the basic configuration on the switch, and am going to upgrade it to nxos.7.0.3.I7.9.bin.I've already copy the .bin file to bootflash: ; but when I am running the pre-check for the installation, it always stuck at "Pre-upgrade check failed. Return code 0x401E009D (preupgrade request timed out ). "

Cisco-NSX02# show install all impact nxos bootflash:nxos
bootflash:nxos.7.0.3.I7.8.bin bootflash:nxos.7.0.3.I7.9.bin
Cisco-NSX02# show install all impact nxos bootflash:nxos.7.0.3.I7.9.bin
Installer will perform impact only check. Please wait.

Cisco-NSX02# show install all failure-reason
Service "l2fwd" has failed to respond within the given time period
(vdc: 1)

Just as shown above, it shows Service "l2fwd" has failed..

I also checked the processes, and go to Guest-shell mode but I can't find l2fwd.service.

Cisco-NSX02# show processes cpu | include l2fwd
28246 1369 954 1435 0.00% l2fwd

I searched on Google but can't find any useful information about the error.

If some one can help that would be much appreciated.

Best regards

George

  • No you cannot upgrade it with the # install all commands, below is the way how you do it;
  • below is the link where you download the Virtual Nexus Switches, just navigate to the respective version that you need and download the appropriate image that you need,  Note: You might need a Cisco Account to download it.
