Getting started Cisco API's

I have only just started looking at the cisco API's and haven't really worked with cisco products before.  What I want to ask is for example for the Cisco UCS Director must you have it downloaded and installed before you can actually use the API?

You can use Sandbox lab for testing .  Request to refer UCS Director for more details.
