We're using Unity 2.3.6 and I noticed that all the email receitps turn up in the voice mail stack... is there a way to change this or turn it off? Why do they show up there?

well... good question.

First, the easy part. Yes, in Unity 2.3.6 build 22 and later you can turn off receipts showing up in your message stack entirely by editing the registry. Please be careful when doing this, as always. In the registry go to "HKLM | Software |Active Voice | Conversations | 1.0 ". You need to add a new key in this branch called "Exclude Return Receipts" and set it to "1". Be sure to spell and space it exactly as I have here. When you retsart Unity the next time, no receipts will be offered to users in the message stack over the phone. This is, of course, a system wide option so it affect all users.

The hard part is explaining why this is... in a nutshell, filtering your inbox for different messages is expensive and kinda slow, especially if you have a lot of message there (and most folks do). As a result we tried to simplify the filters as much as possible and lump all receipts (NDR, return receipts etc...) together and offer them in one of the 3 main stack (voice, email, fax) to speed things up. We went with the voice stack since if you requested a return receipt for a voice message and you don't have TTS turned on for your account, you wouldn't get an email stack at all so this was the best "lowest common denominator" solution. Yes, it is annoying getting email receipts presented in your voice mail stack, especially if you get lots of them.

We're working on breaking out all the receipts and NDRs (voice, fax, email and otherwise) into their own stack for a future version which should make this a little nicer for folks to deal with.

Is this still a valid fix ?

We tried it on a 2.4 buld 78 server and it didn't seem to have the desired effect.

Yes, this procedure should still work. I tried it on 2.4.5 build 73 (production release version) and it worked OK. This only keeps the read receipts from being presented, not NDRs and the like...

Also, not sure where you got build 78... that's not a publicly available build.

My mistake on the build, the version is actually Unity 2.4 Build 2.4.0.120.

Should both Delivery and Read receipts be being blocked ?

Not applicable

yes, both read and delivery receipts will stop showing up in the voice mail stack after this change is made. I verified that on 2.4.5 build 73 tongiht.

I tried this in Unity build 2.45 build 120 and it didn't seem to work. However under the HKLM | Software |Active Voice | Conversations | 1.0 there is already an entry for the Exclude Return Receipts and the value is set to zero. Should I change that?

Not applicable

0 is the default value and implies that you WILL get return receipts in your voice mail stack. If you set this to 1 and restart Unity, return receipts will no longer be presented.
