Cisco C370 Email Security Appliance reset counter if Rate Limit for Envelope Senders is reached.

I am trying to configure Rate Limit for Envelope Senders for outgoing mails from our email gateway. Lets say we set it to 200 for individual user per hour. What if he sends 200 mail in 10 min. According to the link he cannot send the mail for one hour.

https://community.cisco.com/t5/email-security/how-to-rate-limit-outbound-smtp-based-on-sender-not-host-system/td-p/1362726

What if that sender is genuine and has sent genuine mail. Is there any way to reset the counter of that one hour. So that he can send the mail even after crossing the limit of 200 I mean set the mail count to 0.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Abc,

These kinds of changes are applied within the ESA globally, so when changing the value for one user, it would change from general settings for all users. This is a protection feature to avoid spam and any interruption in your email service.

By configuration, the user must wait an hour as mentioned in the guide. But there are two options that can be useful if your organization regularly sends time-sensitive mailings.

I share the following article:
Bypass rate limit
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/email-security-appliance/118577-technote-esa-00.html

Within the guide you can also find additional information, in the "Injection Control Periodicity" section:
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/esa/esa13-5/user_guide/b_ESA_Admin_Guide_13-5/b_ESA_Admin_Guide_12_1_chapter_0110.html

I hope it was useful for you.
Greetings.

Dear  ervalver,

Thanks for the reply. The above links was helpful. When we create an exception table, can we create a separate rate limit for that particular user in exception table. Lets say globally I enabled Rate Limit of 200 for sender but also defined user@example.com in exception table. Can I create different Rate Limit for that user@example.com lets say 300. I don't want the mail address in exception list being compromised.

Also  you have mentioned that "These kinds of changes are applied within the ESA globally, so when changing the value for one user, it would change from general settings for all users."

How can it be applied globally. Could you please help me with  the link on how it can be done.

Thank You.
