Cisco Ironport SMTP Default Route

Tenemos configurados varios listeners para correo entrante y saliente. Para los listener de correo entrante se utilizan consultas LDAP. Para el correo saliente queremos utilizar una ruta SMTP por defecto. ¿Esta ruta afectará al correo entrante?

Most outgoing emails uses the default SMTP route which means ESA relies on published MX records unless there are few explicit SMTP routes configured.

Are you planning to modify default SMTP route? if yes what exact change do you intend? As long you have other SMTP routes for your own domain pointing to internal exchange server, modifying the default SMTP route will not affect incoming email.

However depending on what change you intend to make, it may affect outgoing emails.

We have a cluster with four Ironport servers, on which several listeners have been configured for incoming and outgoing mail.
For incoming mail listeners, LDAP routing queries are used to deliver mail to its destination.
For outgoing mail, we assume that MX is being queried by default since there is no other configuration.
We have some SMTP routes configured for some specific domains but there is not one by default.
We now wanted to make all featured mail delivered to a specific mail server, rather than to the destination domain's MXs, and we wanted to add an SMTP route for any domains that connect to that server. But before that we wanted to make sure that incoming mail that works with LDAP queries will continue to work with those queries as well and will not be affected by that general SMTP route that we would configure.

As long as you do not modify any SMTP routes meant for your own domain i.e. for incoming emails, you shouldn't have any problems.
