Hi Experts,

My customer wants send internal email through ESA. Is it possible to send emails which destination is same same domain, for example a Cisco guy send email to another Cisco guy, through ESA?

Customer ESA is deployed with single leg.

Jay

Assuming Microsoft Exchange? As far as I know, that's not really possible.

Hello Jay,
Similar to what Ken said, it’s not a normal practice.
Exchange normally keeps inside mail within its environment.

Mail sourced from exchange is designated with a “Relay” outbound action. That initiates outbound rules, scans and manipulations.
If exchange sends internal email to the ESA for inbound destinations it would get processed as outbound just like normal outbound flow.
Typically the outbound flow is less restrictive.

Second, your reporting would be skewed as your internal to internal would show in all the outbound reports.

* If you have any special actions, such as LDAP accept, LDAP routing, DKIM signing, DANE!!!, special message filters, they may impact the flow.

* If you have a simple environment with low volume and plenty of ESA power, yes the ESA would do it.

I cannot answer the Exchange portion related to configuration.

Thanks,
Chris
