Hi !

I have initially setup a C370 ironport box for  SMTP and MX. Now I have the second box which will be operating as a backup.

I am a bit stuck in trying to figure out how to cluster the two ironport servers. Please assist...I would be greatful hear from someone who has worked on "cluster" before.

With Thanks,

Ruveni

Greetings Ruveni,

The term "Cluster" from an IronPort perspective can be a bit confusing sometimes. From an IronPort perspective we use the term clustering to refer to centralized management. This is a feature that allows you to share a configuration across multiple appliances. If you are referring to load balancing using multiple appliances the IronPort Email Security Appliance does not have anything built in to configure for this. This is achieved through the use of DNS round robin.

For more information you can follow Martins excellent blog here.

Hi Chris,

Yes, This is a centralized management 'setup', with changes done on one server is updated to the backup server.

One server has been setup as an the only smtp and also recieving mail with the secondary machine as mx as well with secondary smtp feature.

Many Thanks,

Ruveni
