licenses have expired except for Incoming Mail Handling

I have an Ironport C670, where all licenses have expired except for Incoming Mail Handling, but the emails were "being sent" because there was no queue at the checkout, but the recipients did not receive them, however all employees were receiving and email without abnormality.

Disable AntiSpam and Malware box activity was performed and after the emails were delivered normally.
Should this happen after licenses expire?

Another intriguing point was that there was a user who forwarded the email at 2:30 pm, and when it was around 7 pm the customer called charging the email, after which the above action was taken by analyzing via CLI via Current log file, The 2:30 pm email was not identified, but the user sent me the email and was able to find it via the web.

Hey Ricardo,

When the ESA's license expires (on a physical box) it keeps two feature keys.

Bounce Verification and Incoming Mail Handling (as this is perpetual on the boxes) which allows it to accept handle and deliver emails accordingly. (Content filters will still scan for the basic conditions however).

All other engines which were previously enabled will not do any scanning as license expired.

There are some off-chances mails can be delayed if the engines expired but is still 'enabled' but it shouldn't affect the content itself.

Mathew

Hi Mathew,

Is it actual for virtual appliance.

Thanks!

Hey Denis,

If it's a virtual box - all licenses will be expired with the VLN; this means the box will not be operable in this state.

No listeners will be functioning or any mail handling will be done, the device will also no longer update it's services and cease option to upgrade.

At this time it would be best to renew the licenses of the virtual device.

If you have physical ESAs which are licensed; you can request assistance from the Cisco Licensing operations and ask to share these keys on the physical ESA to a virtual.

Regards,

Mathew
