Hi all,

We have two FMC in our Production environment with two different Subscriptions (FS-VMW-SW-K9 and FS-VMW-10-SW-K9). The FMC with FS-VMW-SW-K9 subscription managing two SFR modules and FMC with FS-VMW-10-SW-K9 subscription managing Four SFR modules. Now we want to manage all our FirePOWER modules from Single FMC. Can I re host FS-VMW-10-SW-K9 subscription to another FMC (Currently subscribed with FS-VMW-SW-K9). It can able to manage 12 devices?

Thanks.

FMC licenses are not additive. That is you cannot add a 2-device and 10-device license to net 12 devices.

Your 10-device license can manage your existing 2 +4 = 6 devices so just use that license.

Hi Marvin,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

From your answer, I understand, we can't add both FS-VMW-10-SW-K9, FS-VMW-2-SW-K9 subscription on same FMC.

Now can we remove FS-VMW-2-SW-K9 subscription from FMC-2 and transfer FS-VMW-10-SW-K9 subscription from FMC-1 to FMC-2?

Are you using Smart licenses or Classic Licenses? The procedure is different according to the style you are using.

If you'd like Cisco to assist directly, you can just open a case via an email to licensing@cisco.com

Hi Marvin,

We are using Classic Licenses.

The classic FMCv license is perpetual (never expires). Cisco doesn't track whether you are managing 2, 10 or more devices. But if you want to be administratively correct you can go into the classic license page at software.cisco.com and rehost your license.

FS-VMW-* license is completely different matter from the IPS-* license. The IPS determines how many SFRs you can host on an FMC, IPS must be renewed and IPS licenses are hard-tracked meaning you can't host more SFRs than you have IPS licenses registered on your FMC.

The FS-VMW-* on the other hand are NOT hard-tracked and never expire, just as someone else pointed out here already there's no hard limit on the number of SFRs you can manage on one FMC in context of that FMC's FS-VMW-* license. The hard limit comes from the IPS license. The relationship between SFRs and FS-VMW-* is an administrative matter which would likely come up if you open a TAC case and the discrepancy is discovered by TAC but other than that the hard limits are only IPS-license related.
