internal static route

I have a firepower 1010 I am trying to configure for a customer.  It is going in place of a router that is there now.  internal ip for example on firepower is 192.168.1.10 and this is the default gateway for all computers then we have another router with internal ip of 192.168.1.1 and this has specific networks on the other side of it for computers to connect to.  I put a route in the firepower of interface being internal. I made a gateway of 192.168.1.1 and then put ex. 189.156.0.0/16 as the network on the other side.  I hit the deploy it deployed it to the firepower but the route does not see to work.  what am I missing?  thank you for all the help.

Re: internal static route

Verify the deployment from the cli with "show running-config route".

Does the internal router know to return traffic to your Firepower? It may have other adjacencies or its own static routes that make the flow asymmetric.
