Dear All, I have a 5525x running in the network and have a 5510 in stock. Can we copy the configuration from 5525 to 5510 ? what is the better way of doing this? I dont have a smartnet for 5525 x , so it will be better if I keep the 5510 ready incase the other one fails. Thanks

5525 X to 5510 -  both are not the same models X  is next generation ASA.

5525 X  - Do you have any other advanced features running like IPS ?

If you looking some base configuration as FW, it can be achieved with some tweaks - make sure both are running same version or configuration compatible OS.

Restoring the config to 5510, do it offline with out connecting to exiting network.

When you get a chance  - maintenance window with business, test it so you are sure it was working.

Make sure you keep up the upto date config to 5510  device all the time.

Thankjs, I have IPS enabled in 5525x which I know cannot be migrated to 5510. What I would like is to make the 5510 as a basic firewall when 5525 goes down so that the network is not effected.

You can only do what 5510 can support, Since 5510 is offline, you can take backup of 5525 and tweak it for 5510 without IPS configuration and test it.
