ASA Firewall Image Upgrade From 8.4 to 9.1

Hi All,

We are planning Firewall Software Image Upgrade.

We have a cluster with 8.4(4)1 Image, And we wanted to upgrade to 9.1(7).

As per Cisco Docs, Upgrade can be in two steps - 8.4(4)1-->9.1(2) -->9.1(7)

And this cluster carries almost 3500 VOIP Connections.

I wanted to upload the Secondary one from 8.4(4)1-->9.1(2)  then do the same for Primary after shifting traffic to Secondary.

But my main concern is, Considering first step From 8.4(4)1-->9.1(2)  as a Major Jump, Does these firewalls will remain in cluster after secondary firewall upgrade ?

And If i shift the traffic from primary to secondary, Does this VOIP Sessions will remain connected ?

Thanks in advance,

Prasanna Kumar Desiredddy

Hi Prasanna,

Yes the ASA would be still in cluster after you upgrade to the major code.

Also the VOIP sessions would remain connected in case you are using stateful failover.

Hi Aditya,

Many thanks for the reply.

Can you please advice if we can upgrade 8.4(4)1-->9.1(2) directly.

Could you please tell me what could be the safest upgrade path to 9.1(7).

Prasanna Kumar Desiredddy

Hi,

As per the release notes we need first to upgrade to 8.4(5) or 9.0(4) and then you can upgrade to 9.1.7.

Regards,

Aditya
