Hi all,

What is the way-2-go to rename an interface "NameIf", including the applied ACL?
If i rename the interface NameIf, will there be down-time?

If you want to remove the "nameif" this would mean the interface could no more pass traffic as the "nameif"command is a requirement for an interface to pass traffic.

Suggested change using always through CLI.

Go to the configuration mode of the interface which name you want to change and issue the command "nameif <newname>"

Make sure when you doing in production environment always do this in change window.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Hi Balaji,

Thanks for the info. If you just issue "nameif <newname>", would there be any impact? If the applied ACL also has the old nameif in it, i would still need to recreate the ACL with the new nameif to make everything complete, right?

Hi,
Certainly on new ASA version (I'm using 9.9) when you change the nameif of an interface, it automatically updates the nat, access-list entries etc to reflect the new nameif.

As recommened by BB perform the change during a change window.

HTH

same behavior on older versions. Not sure if that was always the case, but I already did this long time ago and everything updated automatically.
