Dear collective Cisco geniuses...

I upgraded my ASA 5520 with the latest image. Now I get an error upon launching ASDM.

Version Mismatch:

Your ASA image has a version number 7.2(4) which is not supported by ASDM 6.4(1) Please use Device Manager version 5.2(x)
Continue Anyway?

What are the newest, recomended image versions of ASA and ASDM I should be using?
I will also be using the SSM-20 module with this setup, so I would like to stay with a working version of ASDM.

Thanks!!!

Hello,

If you wanted to upgrade your ASDM only, the latest version for your ASDM that you could run is 5.2.4 as per the following Matrix:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/compatibility/asamatrx.html

The latest version of ASDM (6.4.1) is only supported by devices running version 8.0 or higher. The version that you could eventually do upgrade to really depends on the amount of RAM that you have on the device.

Cisco recommends that if you need to upgrade the device, that the upgrade comes from one of 2 reasons, if a defect has been identified, or if there is a feature that you need on a new version.

Here are the release notes for the versions that comes up from 7.2

ASA 8.0.5

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa80/release/notes/asa805rn.html

ASa 8.2

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa82/release/notes/asarn82.html

ASA 8.3

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa83/release/notes/asarn83.html

ASA 8.4
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa84/release/notes/asarn84.html

In case of 8.2, 8.3 and 8.4, please feel free to upgrade to the latest release that appears on cisco web page, for example, if you plan to move to 8.2, go to 8.2.5 and so on.

Read carefully the release notes prior upgrade.

Hope this information is useful.
