ASA5545 Show Version vs Show Inventory

Customer has a new ASA5545 and needed to add a new license PAK.

They did a show inventory to get the serial number for the device.  Unfortunately this is different from the serial number you get from the show version which is what is checked when you add the license.

When we check the other older ASA55xx devices the serial number is the same for both sho ver and sho inv.

Why the difference?

Hello Richard,

All we can tell you is that the chassis serial number is used for opening SR's and contract  coverage. The PCB serial number(SN on show version) is for the licensing.

It was done for security reasons but we dont have more details on that.

Regards,

Felipe.
