Cisco ASA 7.2.4 -> 9.0.3 Upgrade

Hi Community, all helpful responses rated!

We have some Cisco ASA5550's running code release 7.2.4.

We are planning on upgrading these to 8.0 -> 8.2 -> 8.4 -> 9.0.3, step upgrade as proscribed by Cisco.

Now due to the nat-control and NAT syntax changes amongst other things, we intend to Proof of Concept this process in lab, review any unexpected behaviour and build out a test sheet.

My particular question relates to how the existing feature licensing is handled during the stepped upgrade process.

What will happen to our Security Plus license on 7.2.4 by the time we reach 9.0.3?

Many thanks, Ash.

The feature licensing is based on the activation-key that has been applied on your hardware unit - the key is tied to your hardware serial number. As long as you stay on the same hardware unit, your Security Plus license will remain intact.

Security Plus does not apply to 5550 models though - that license type is only applicable for the 5505, 5510, 5512-X and 5585. Reference.
