Cisco Pix 515e Password reset

I just purchased a 2nd hand Cisco Pix 515 from a recycle place.  It has a password on it, so I've been using the password recovery document.  According to the startup, its on Pix Software 8.0.  After I've entered into monitor mode, I am unable to ping the laptop.  The configuration was set as so.

Cat 5 cable between laptop and Interface 1.

Console cable from laptop to console port

Cisco Pix 515e

Address: 192.168.5.1

Server: 192.168.5.5

File: np70.bin

Laptop

IP: 192.168.5.5

Netmask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: null

When I ran a wireshark, it looked like the pix was attempting to broadcast on 0.0.0.0 so I thought the problem was that there was no subnet mask on the pix and it was assuming a subnet of 0.0.0.0 but I couldn't find a way to specify a subnet when attempting to use the monitor mode.

Any help?

Hi Wesley,

Please follow the fllowing document , it has the steps for password recovery:

Thanks,

But the problem is not that I didn't know the steps.  I am following those steps.  The problem is during the setup of the transfer, I cannot get the firewall to read the laptop.  If you re-read my message you can see that I was following the steps.

Anyone else that has read my message able to help?

Hello Wesley,

As you said you have read the document you can see is pretty straight-forward and simple.

That being said you should not see any broadcast at all as you are manually entering the IP address of the TFTP server.

For that I got to point to something not properly setup here.

  • You sure you are connecting the cable to the right interface?
  • Do you have the windows firewall or any other anti virus set on the PC?
  • Have you switched the cable (I mean we got to look for a faulty here ) ?
