Hi everyone,

I am having a hard time getting license for a new ASA 5506-X.

I got the PAK then enter it Product Registration page at Cisco.com. I have reached Step 2 as showed in the picture, I am trying to get a license but it asked me to enter License Key. This is quite confusing to me. Can anyone kindly show me how to get Control License from PAK?

Thank you.

You need to do basic configuration, either via command line (session sfr console, admin, Admin123), or via the asdm, to set up access to the firepower module.  After that, you connect via asdm, select configuration at the top of the asdm, then "asa firepower configuration" on the lower left side of the asdm, then click "licenses".  Click "add new licenses" on the upper right of the asdm window, and it will reveal a hexadecimal mac address which is the "license key" required to fulfill the PAK on cisco's website.  PITA.  I cannot find a way to show the license from the command line.  It's related to the device mac address, but slightly different.  On mine:

asa5506-spare# sh module sfr det
MAC Address Range: 70b3.1728.9515 to 70b3.1728.9515
from the asdm: Add Feature License Key 72:70:B3:17:28:95:15

Here's a picture of the asdm page where you paste in the license (it's a text file) which cisco will email you.
