Multicast LAN with ASA and IP BASE LAN internal router

Hi, I have a LAN with multiple VLANs connected through Catalyst 3750 with IP Base image. In IP Base the router only supports PIM stub multicast (no PIM multicast routing)

But I have an ASA connected to the internal router and to the internet router.

Asa supports PIM multicast routing and can act as PIM RP. With this configuration, is there a way to configure an internal multicast network? That is a multicast server in one internal vlan (VLAN 1)  and multicast clients in VLAN 2. Both VLANs connected to the C3750 router.

Any idea?

This can work, but you can't have a multicast source on a stub router... "It is not possible when multicast sources are attached to the stub  network because the stub router functioning as the first-hop router  needs to register with the RP."

So as long as your Multicast sources are connected to the ASA or another router, then you can do this. The configuration should be pretty basic. On the ASA, just enable multicast routing, set the RP and make sure your ACLs and NAT allow the multicast traffic.

Here is the config you should need on the switch:

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

here is a guide which shows what options you have as far as multicasting is concerned

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa82/configuration/guide/route_multicast.html#wp1093083

can you please describe little more in detail as to wht you want to achieve,  a topology diagram will help

I want a multicast internal network for broadcasting video internally. But my internal router (C3750 with IP Base Image) doesn't supports PIM (it only supports PIM stub).

On the other hand, I have an ASA connected to the internal router and to the external (internet) router. The ASA supports PIM. Is there a way to use the ASA for routing multicast to the internal network with this configuration?

Thanks
