Hey all
Im pulling my hair out here going nuts.
I got a PIX 501 off ebay and im trying to upgrade it to have an ASDM image on it.
Ive downloaded every copy of the ASDM image i can get my hands on, and when i transfer it to the PIX when its up and running i get out of memory, If i do it through monitor mode, i get the error "bad magic number" no matter what i transfer to it
I can transfer a new image to the PIX (a non asdm one through monitor mode

The pix 501 doesn't support the asdm only the PDM. The ASDM is only for versions 7.0 or higher.

there are a few things you can try.
1. Download again the pix image that you are trying to install since the one you have now could be corrupted.
2. Try using another TFTP server I normally use TFTPD32
3. Try the upgrade from another PC.
I found some articles about your issue:
