Getting Started with GMM LAB for non Cisco employees.

Greetings,

Is it at all possible to over overcome the requirement to run this lab as a non Cisco employee without actual an IR* device?

__Non-Cisco employee, you will need to obtain a Kinetic account with admin privileges. The account may be provided to you by your lab proctor or admin within your own organization.

If you do not have a organization/account with admin privileges you will not be able to perform this Lab. We are working to enhance the lab to create temporary lab accounts.__

I can reserve a read only lab using my ciscoID. When I do this I get a message stating the following:

---------- from no-reply@devnetsandbox.cisco.com -------

Hi rmongeon05446,

Good News! Your Kinetic GMM Lab is ready. Let us get you connected to your Lab!

Please check your email for a message from ciscokinetic.io-support@cisco.com. This email will guide you on how to setup a password and connect to Kinetic!

----------- so I do this and get a message -----------

Dear DevNet Sandbox User rmongeon05446,

You have been added to Static-Lab as a Support.
Cisco Kinetic team
us.ciscokinetic.io

-------------I go to us.ciscokinetic.io -------------
It asks for email and password. What am i to use?

So, again, my question is will if this lab work for a non Cisco employee that doesn't have access to an Industrial Router IR*?

If so, please perform the lab as a non Cisco and show us how otherwise we can't use this lab and everyone else is in the same situation or will be once they start learning this very new material by themselves.

DevNet exams a 4 months away and getting this lab to work properly is a requirement for going further.

Re: Getting Started with GMM LAB for non Cisco employees.

Hello Rob,

To answer your question I did some research. I created a separate account with my personal Gmail and did not associate it with Cisco. I navigated to https://developer.cisco.com/site/sandbox/ and clicked on Kinetic GMM. In total, I received three emails from Cisco. The email with the subject "Cisco Kinetic Confirmation Instructions" contained a link to https://us.ciscokinetic.io/users/confirmation?confirmation_token=<token> which is accessed by clicking on "Confirm". After navigating to the page I set the password and I am able to access https://us.ciscokinetic.io/organizations/<number>.

Did you receive an email with the subject "Cisco Kinetic Confirmation Instructions"? Anyone should be able to set up a DevNet account. Once your DevNet account is set up at developer.cisco.com you should be eligible to reserve a GMM sandbox and access it without a Cisco account.

Checking the emails I received I do not see any that contain "you will need to obtain a Kinetic account with admin privileges". From your post I see you used your ciscoID, can you register your email with DevNet at https://developer.cisco.com/ and if you have already done so do you have another email to use as a test?

You said, "It asks for email and password. What am i to use?" and I think this page is to set a password. I used a password generator and set my password. The screen may look similar to a log in screen because of the two blank fields even though they both are for a password. If you have any questions or request further assistance please, let me know.

Thank you for using DevNet,
Kyle

Re: Getting Started with GMM LAB for non Cisco employees.

Thanks but...

That is not the experience I get

1. I navigated to https://developer.cisco.com/site/sandbox/ and clicked on Kinetic GMM.
2. Reserve the lab
3. Emails received (subject line)
- We are reserving your lab
- Your Cisco DevNet Sandbox Lab is Ready
- DevNet Sandbox User rmongeon05446, you have been added to Static-Lab.
Dear DevNet Sandbox User rmongeon05446,
You have been added to Static-Lab as a Support.

Cisco Kinetic team - us.ciscokinetic.io

4. I click on the link within Chrome and it takes me to:
https://us.ciscokinetic.io/users/sign_in and it asks me for my email and a password. I check my inbox again and there is no "Cisco Kinetic Confirmation Instructions"

5. The page asks me to "Log In to Your Account"

6. I do have a DevNet account as I've done the majority of the IoT labs. My user ID is rmongeon05446. I tried logging into this page using the email that is linked to my Devnet account and the password, which I know works cause I'm logged into Devnet in the first place to request the lab.

7. The page responds "Invalid email or password", I do this several times and I get an email from ciscokinetic.io-support stating,

"Your account has been locked due to an excessive number of unsuccessful sign in attempts. Click the link below to unlock your account"

8. I get am email from ciscokinetic.io-support@cisco.com stating:
Dear DevNet Sandbox User rmongeon05446,
- Your account has been locked due to an excessive number of unsuccessful sign in attempts.

- Click the link below to unlock your account:
- Unlock my account (link)

9. I click on the link to reset my account.

10. I'm bounced to: https://us.ciscokinetic.io/organizations/2816

11. At this point it looks like I'm at where I need to be. I can see the dashboard and all.

So this isn't the same experiece as you describe but it looks like I'm where I need to be. I'll try doing the lab again now ~ the instance is active.
