IR829 Ignition Control Power Draw

Hey guys,

I set up an 829 in my car and tried to connect the Ignition Control port to my cigarette lighter port.

It seemed to work for a while but eventually it stopped and my fuse for that outlet is blown.

Now i would like to know what the expected power draw is?

Also, what is the recommended fuse size for the ignition port?

Thanks!

Re: IR829 Ignition Control Power Draw

Here the response I got internally:

Hi Mirko,

On IR829, ignition management evolves over several IOS releases, as documented on

IOS 15.6(2)T  https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/access/800/829/15-6-2TIR8xx-Release-Notes.html#pgfId-1063898

IOS 15.8(3)M https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/routers/access/800/829/15-8-3M-Release-Note.html#pgfId-1116690

It includes FPGA upgrade to properly manage it.

IR829 ignition based power management system supports

  • IR829 automatically turns when the engine starts. IR829 in shutdown state draws 1 to 2 mA when the ignition is off.
  • When engine is off, IR829 stays on from 20 seconds to 2 hours depending on the time delay setting and the battery capacity.
  • if battery drops too low, IR829 is turned off before preset time
  • Watchdog timer or shut off MCU power in case of hang
  • Ignition input: 12V. If using a cigarette lighter, it shall be fused with a Fast-Blow 20A fuse for short-circuit protection

Default manufacturing values are
