Umbrella and Cisco WLC

Hello Community,

I've been reading the Cisco Umbrella WLAN Integration Guide,

all DNS queries seems to be send to the Cloud, my doubt here is:

What happen with local DNS Resolution for internal services?

We would like to protect internet access with Umbrella, but for internal services We need internal DNS Resolution. This in wired deployment is made with the Umbrella VA, So,

Is it possible to the WLC redirect DNS queries to Umbrella VA and still have the same kind of policy and protections than sending It directly to the cloud?

Thanks.

Hi Ariel-

If you are deploying Umbrella with the VA and/or the roaming client, then you will need to define the "Internal Domains" in the Umbrella console. You do this under: Deployment > Configuration > Internal Domains. After you do this, DNS queries for any of the defined domains will not be forwarded to Umbrella for resolution.

I hope this helps!

Hi Ariel,

Internal domain resolution is not supported with WLC. Umbrella connector will force all DNS queries (external and internal) go to the Cloud resolvers.
