I have a 4255 with no working Admin password. However, I do have a working service account password. Is there a way to login to the service account and issue commands to either unlock or reset the admin password?

Hi,

You can use the service account to create a new password if the administrator password is lost.

To reset the password through the root account you can execute the below commands from the root :

Login to the service account

-bash-2.05b$ su -

Password:

-bash-2.05b# passwd    !! ---Enter the Admin username---!!

Changing password for

Enter the new password (minimum of 5, maximum of 8 characters)

Please use a combination of upper and lower case letters and numbers.

Enter new password:

Re-enter new password:

Password changed.

Hope that answers your query.

Do not make any other modifications to the sensor through  the service account except under the direction of TAC.

Please use the link below for IPS appliance password recovery:

Thanks I was aware of that procedure already, but it doesn't answer my question. And it doesn't solve my problem due to

In other versions of the IPS system it's possible to give a "password" or "passwd" command from the BASH prompt and I want to find out whether something like that is possible under 7.0
